Bob Young
Bob Young was diagnosed with short-sighted Nystagmus, or “dancing eyes,” at the age of 12. Growing up, he faced challenges at school, feeling alienated due to the lack of assistive technology. During this time, drawing cartoons became a way for him to escape daily struggles.
Although Bob dreamed of studying art and animation in college, his visual impairment prevented him from participating in key courses. Undeterred, he found new inspiration in 2016 when he joined a Facebook group for visually impaired artists. This community helped him gain the confidence to fully pursue his passion.
Today, Bob combines traditional techniques with modern tools, sketching with pencil and paper before using Photoshop to enhance clarity and add digital backgrounds and text. His piece Hope for Inner Child reflects his journey, depicting a young boy creating art despite his visual challenges, symbolizing resilience and the hope found within.
