Johnnie Wiggins

Johnnie Wiggins is an African American artist who is currently incarcerated. He discovered his artistic voice five years ago, when he decided to pick up a pencil and draw. Completely self-taught, Johnnie’s artistic journey has been guided by a few art books and an unwavering dedication to his craft.
Johnnie encountered eyesight problems during his childhood, which have progressively worsened over time. He was later diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, which affects his vision, depth perception, and light sensitivity. Despite these challenges, he continues to create stunning works of art in dimly lit rooms to express his voice and hope for the future. He generously donates many of these works to support a program that empowers incarcerated men to pursue higher education.
