About the Artist
Constance Avery is a visual artist who relies on her central vision as a creative lifeline, as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and Usher’s Syndrome have limited her peripheral vision. Her painting career, once hindered by her diagnoses, flourished after cataract surgery restored her ability to draw inspiration from the vibrant colors, light, and beauty of nature.
Deeply influenced by her late brother, an artist and stained-glass maker, and her mother’s stained-glass creations, Constance weaves their memory into her work. Her paintings often evoke the luminous qualities of stained glass, achieved by using varying acrylic inks, spontaneous brushstrokes, and painter’s tape to create fragmented, mosaic-like effects.
